OK so gloom is very (rather scarily so) fond of the dark red background and would like to extend it to where the currently grey area is.
I'm not sure whether this will work. The contrast between the off-grey-green (I'm colourblind, can't tell) colour would be too low IMHO. I could upload a completely new test theme if you want but I'm loathe to spend too much more time tweaking the site. The red is a very heavy colour. Grey, while boring, is less offensive and matches with more things.
That said I also have to upload a "lighter" theme (user-selectable) for various reasons so maybe this would be a good opportunity.

Red and green looks good as im sure they are complementary colours.
How about a compromise of a lighter red?
Oh and im very interested in a lite version of this website that i can view discretely.

What I'll do is enable user-selectable themes and have
a) The original theme with no red (CLOWN_Lite)
b) This theme (default) (CLOWN)
c) The theme with more red (CLOWN_Red)
d) An all-white discrete theme (CLOWN_White)
Then everyone's happy

I just want to point out I'm more of a coder than a designer. The source code of this site I understand - the CSS and all that less so, and I find it difficult to modify a design. Aesthetics for me focus on things being simple and I naturally try to avoid bright/loud colours in design work as I know it limits my options. This is why my gut feeling is to incorporate the red but not have as much as on the old site.
Plus I find the theme engine of this CMS quite tricky as it is mainly CSS based and I never really got my head round it. To make my original design I took a theme called Azul-Carbon and modified the colours in it, plus did some minor image and stylesheet editing. The result is what we have here.
I'll make those four designs and we can tweak them further if the site goes live but I really don't want to spend much more of my time on design work. I've been skipping loads of wow gaming as it is!
